Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
- Symptoms: Dull headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, confusion, and shortness of breath.
- Environmental Clues: Symptoms improve when leaving the building and return upon re-entry.
- Group Illness: Everyone in the house is sick at the same time, but no one has a fever.
- High-Risk Times: Symptoms appear while using fuel-burning appliances (furnaces, generators, stoves, fireplaces).
Know the Signs of Hypothermia
- In Children: Bright red, cold skin. Very low energy.
- Early Symptoms: Shivering, cold fingers and toes, exhaustion, confusion, fumbling hands.
- Severe Symptoms: Slurred speech, clumsiness, drowsiness, memory loss.
Tips for preventing frozen pipes
- Protect your pipes: Seal crawl space openings, disconnect and drain garden hoses, and insulate exposed pipes. Install outdoor faucet covers.
- Know how to shut off your water: Locate your main water shut-off valve and ensure it is in good working condition.
- Protect your meter: Contact Customer Service if your meter box cover is broken, displaced or missing.
- Keep water moving: Allow a small trickle of water to run through pipes during extreme cold.
- If pipes freeze: Turn off the main shut-off valve before attempting to thaw the pipe.
